Default Display Wide Data/Data Next To It

I have, say, cell A1 which has a string of say 25 characters in it. The cell
is say 10 characters wide. I can't change the width of the cell for various
reasons. In cell B1 say is an =IF that says, if there's data in A1, set B1 =
"". Inspite of the fact that this should evaluate to a null, only 10
characters of A1 will display.

I'm pretty sure there's no way around this one, but thought that I would
check. What I need to do is display A1 over the top of B1... I think the
issue is there is a formula in B1, so Excel won't let A1 display over the top
of it. I went through all the menu and function options. Anything I missed?

You could format A1 to Wrap text or Shrink to fit on the Alignment tab
of the format dialogue. However, neither of these will give you the
effect you are looking for.

Thanks for the input. I have tried the wrap text. That's not bad, but it
does waste paper space thus driving cost. Also, I suspect that a long name
could be wrapped in the middle of it. Shrink to fit was pretty funny - need
a spy glass to see it... but it DOES fit!

Thanks for feeding back - I did warn you that neither of the two
options would give you what you really wanted, but they were
alternative ways of seeing the entries.
