Links are different depending on how you open file.
In Excel, using worksheets that are on the server and linked together, when
is file is open, any file linking to it recognizes that it is open and drops the server name from the linked cell and refers just to the folder the file is located in. My problem is that for certain files, even though open, are not recognized as being open by a linked file, thus causing it to go searching for that file and taking forever to post changes to the worksheet, also if you open an excel speadsheet using Windows Explorer the links are one way and if you open Excel first and then open the same worksheet the links are different. |

It sounds like the files are open in different instances of excel.
Sometimes one of these works when you're having trouble with double clicking on the file in windows explorer: Tools|Options|General|Ignore other applications (uncheck it) --- or --- Close Excel and Windows Start Button|Run excel /unregserver then Windows Start Button|Run excel /regserver The /unregserver & /regserver stuff resets the windows registry to excel's factory defaults. Maybe one of these will work for you. charlie59 wrote: In Excel, using worksheets that are on the server and linked together, when is file is open, any file linking to it recognizes that it is open and drops the server name from the linked cell and refers just to the folder the file is located in. On the pc.
Try it on one, then test it to see if it helps. charlie59 wrote: I do this on the server or on the PCs? "Dave Peterson" wrote: It sounds like the files are open in different instances of excel.
