Default circular reference

when I post my dollar amounts into the cells columns for some reason when I
hit enter, the figures don't move over to the right of the cell as in past
months. Also, when I try to insert $ and ,'s they don't register??? Any ideas

Default circular reference

You should not type the $ symbol
You type 123.45
Formatting add the $ to give $123.45
best wishes
