Default Missing "Link to File"

I am trying to insert a .jpg file in a spreadsheet and keep the image linked
to the underlying file. I am able to insert the image but cannot link to it.
I found KB article 903177 which refers:

Office 2003
1. Open the Office 2003 document.
2. On the Insert menu, point to Picture, and then click From File.
3. Select the picture that you want to insert.
4. Click the down arrow on the Insert button, and then click Link to File.

In Excel I do not have the "down arrow on the Insert button" but it is
available in Word. Both are 2003 SP2.

Uncle Dave,

You can try this.

1. Open MS Excel
2. Click Insert Menu
3. Select Object...
4. Click "Create from File" tab
5. Select the .JPG image you want to load
6. Click Insert
7. Tick "Link to file" option
8. Click OK button

Let me know if this works as you intended.

Hi CosmiK,

I have followed your method. The image does not show. I only see the object
with the .jpg file name. The object is referenced as:

=Package|'C:\Documents and Settings\myprofile\My Documents\My
Pictures\camps-bay.jpg'!''''

Regards

UD

I thought you wanted to link any object to the image file and when
double-clicked it should open the image. I got it wrong.

To achieve this, follow the steps given below:
1. Open MS Excel
2. On the Insert menu, point to Picture, and then click From File.
3. Select the picture that you want to insert.
4. Click Insert to insert the image to the excel sheet
5. Having selected the inserted image, press CTRL + K from the keyboard, or
right click the mouse and choose "Hyperlink".
6. Under Link to:, ensure Existing File or Web page is selected (this option
is by default)
7. Under Look in, choose the Jpeg file again.
8. Click OK to save the hyper link.

Let me know if this helps.
