I moved all of my related 2006 files/folders to a single folder "2006". Now
when I go into this "2006" folder that has all of my work for last year I get an error message saying that they can't be found because they were moved. Can I get these missing files back. |

I did as you suggested and again I found the file but when I tried to open it
"could not be found" and asking if the file was moved. I moved all these files by creating a new folder and just moving them into the new folder with my cursor. Open Excel and a good workbook.
Go to ToolsOptionsGeneral and uncheck "Ignore other applications" Try again opening from your 2006 folder. Hi Gord, did as you suggested. The "Ignore other applications" was already

Try it again, but put a space character after excel.exe and before /unregserver.

Running that command from the Windows Start button|Run dialog will start excel,
reset the registry and close excel--it'll be pretty much transparent to you--except for a slight delay while all this runs. (I would have guessed that you would have seen this added to the list of commands to that Run dialog. But that's not important now.) The next thing to try is double clicking on a filename that failed before. Irene wrote: Hi Dave, I did the following: excel.exe /unregserver. When I clicked on ok the Run Window disappeared. What I don't understand is why you hit a "browse" button. Hi Dave, I did the following: excel.exe /unregserver. When I clicked on ok the Run Window disappeared. When I clicked on Browse I got the following: Which one and from where? If you followed Peo's instructions and made sure you had the space between excel.exe and /regserver you should get Windows Installer come up and re-install Excel. Hi, I did what you and Peo suggested: excel.exe space /unregserver then
clicked on ok. The "run" window disappeared and I returned to my desktop. Where did you download excel from? It should be in the same place.
If you're at work and the installation files are on a network server (intranet, not internet), then you may want to get your IT folks involved. I'm not aware of any location that allows you to download a legal copy of excel (except for trial versions). Irene wrote: I did the unregserver and then the regserver. When I bought my computer I had a 60 trial of Excel 2003 then I bought it and
it was downloaded through Microsoft via my computer. To date I have done the following: Run: excel.exe /unregserver then Run: excel.exe regserver This took me to "A required installation file SKU112.CAB could not be found" Then I went to Start, clicked on Excel and got Windows Installer when took me back to file SKU112.CAB not found. I then went into add/remove programs to see if Excel was there and it was, I went into that and got a message saying "Installation Source cannot be found" As of now I can't open a new Excel worksheet or get into any of my Excel files, including the ones I moved. What is going on, does anyone know how to fix this?? "Dave Peterson" wrote: Where did you download excel from? It should be in the same place. If you're at work and the installation files are on a network server (intranet, not internet), then you may want to get your IT folks involved. I'm not aware of any location that allows you to download a legal copy of excel (except for trial versions). Irene wrote: I did the unregserver and then the regserver. I got message saying "A required installation file SKU112.CAB could not be found" and "Original Installation Required - Browse to installation source on your network. Once you have located your installation source, click OK" (I downloaded Excel 2003 over internet) After I click browse I get My Computer, HP_ PAVILION etc right down to Recycle Bin. Where exactly would I find the "Installation Source"? "Dave Peterson" wrote: The browse button allows you to choose a program to run instead of typing in what you want. And remember to do the second part of Peo's instruction, too. Irene wrote: Hi, I did what you and Peo suggested: excel.exe space /unregserver then clicked on ok. The "run" window disappeared and I returned to my desktop. The reason I clicked on the browse button the last time was to see what would happen since nothing happened when I click on the ok button. "Gord Dibben" wrote: Irene What I don't understand is why you hit a "browse" button. I am not an expert on computers. So I need clear basic instructions. Thanks for you help "Dave Peterson" wrote: Peo described how to do that in the earlier entry. Irene wrote: Hi Dave, I do not know how to reset the registry. Please tell and I'll do it. "Dave Peterson" wrote: Running that command from the Windows Start button|Run dialog will start excel, reset the registry and close excel--it'll be pretty much transparent to you--except for a slight delay while all this runs. When I clicked on Browse I got the following: HP Administrator Desktop Favourites My Documents Start Menu WINDOWS I looked in all of these but not sure what to look for. Do you have any other suggestions? "Dave Peterson" wrote: Try it again, but put a space character after excel.exe and before /unregserver. Irene wrote: Hi Peo: I closed Excel, and did start then run and typed in excel.exe/unregserver. When I clicked on "ok" I got the following message: "windows cannot find excel.exe/unregserver" Now what? "Peo Sjoblom" wrote: What happens if you try to open the file through fileopen? Hi Gord, did as you suggested. The "Ignore other applications" was already without a check in the box. Any other suggestions. "Gord Dibben" wrote: Open Excel and a good workbook. I moved all these files by creating a new folder and just moving them into the new folder with my cursor. "Peo Sjoblom" wrote: Do a search in windows and search for *.xls -- Regards, Peo Sjoblom "Irene" wrote in message ... I moved all of my related 2006 files/folders to a single folder "2006". Now when I go into this "2006" folder that has all of my work for last year I get an error message saying that they can't be found because they were moved. Can I get these missing files back. -- Dave Peterson -- Dave Peterson -- Dave Peterson -- Dave Peterson -- Dave Peterson -- Dave Peterson -- Dave Peterson |
