Moved files and can't find them
I moved all of my related 2006 files/folders to a single folder "2006". Now
when I go into this "2006" folder that has all of my work for last year I get an error message saying that they can't be found because they were moved. Can I get these missing files back. |
Moved files and can't find them
Do a search in windows and search for *.xls

I did as you suggested and again I found the file but when I tried to open it
"could not be found" and asking if the file was moved. I moved all these files by creating a new folder and just moving them into the new folder with my cursor. Open Excel and a good workbook.
Go to ToolsOptionsGeneral and uncheck "Ignore other applications" Try again opening from your 2006 folder. Try it again, but put a space character after excel.exe and before /unregserver.

Running that command from the Windows Start button|Run dialog will start excel,
reset the registry and close excel--it'll be pretty much transparent to you--except for a slight delay while all this runs. (I would have guessed that you would have seen this added to the list of commands to that Run dialog. But that's not important now.) The next thing to try is double clicking on a filename that failed before. Irene wrote: Hi Dave, I did the following: excel.exe /unregserver. When I clicked on ok the Run Window disappeared. Where did you download excel from? It should be in the same place.
If you're at work and the installation files are on a network server (intranet, not internet), then you may want to get your IT folks involved. When I bought my computer I had a 60 trial of Excel 2003 then I bought it and
it was downloaded through Microsoft via my computer. To date I have done the following: Run: excel.exe /unregserver then Run: excel.exe regserver This took me to "A required installation file SKU112.CAB could not be found" Then I went to Start, clicked on Excel and got Windows Installer when took me back to file SKU112.CAB not found. I then went into add/remove programs to see if Excel was there and it was, I went into that and got a message saying "Installation Source cannot be found" As of now I can't open a new Excel worksheet or get into any of my Excel files, including the ones I moved. Now when I go into this "2006" folder that has all of my work for last year I get an error message saying that they can't be found because they were moved.
