Default Excel chart data points

Jon-
Thank you for all you effort to help me-I appreciate your inputs.
I would send the data but it is sensitive. I am in the process of going thru
each data point to try to lacate the issue. If all fails I'll reinput. Many
thanks again.

Jon-

The date axis had been setup as you suggested - the issue still remains.

"Jon Peltier" wrote:

Double click on the date axis, and on the number tab, select a date
format.
Uncheck the box that says something like 'format like source'.

FranLew--

Yes--the same workbook and the worksheet data is manually formatted as
a
date.
The axis labels are 'Date' -and 'Value' the same as the columns.

Is the data in the same workbook as the chart? Is the worksheet data
manually formatted as a date? The axis labels?

I am and have been using Excel 2003 -I don't believe that I made a
change
to
cause this.
Any sugestions to correct this??

Are you now using Excel 2007? You didn't explain what you that
caue
the
date
to change to the number.

Microsoft stores that date as an interger represent number of days
since
Jan
1, 1900. Excel display the number as a date or number depending on
the
format of the cells. Hours are represented as a fraction of the
day
where 8
hours = 8/24hr = 0.33333

I have bee using excel 2003 to produce a line chart from two
columns
of
data--'date' and 'value'. When I move the cursor to a point on
the
line
the
'date' and 'value' from the two columns is shown--i.e '8/20' and
'1500'
.Now
the date value point is a five digit number which -I think-is
equivalent to
that date.
How can I regain the m/d to appear?
