Default Saving cosmetic changes to the sheet

I'm using 2007 Home and Student Edition and after I highlight/color rows in
my spreadsheet or adjust column width for easier viewing and then save
changes and close the spreadsheet, when I open it again, none of the changes
are retained.

The changes to data are saved, but cell color and width of columns are not.
How do I have them saved?

Are you sure you've opened the right version of the sheet? It sounds as if
you've saved one version but opened a file with an earlier version. You
could try searching on your disk (or on your network drives?) for files
saved at an appropriate time. Next time check carefully the location and
file name under which you're saving it.
