I'm trying to enter a date in a cell for an attendance roster I'm making.
I click a cell and enter "9/10." But, Excel converts it to "###" in the cell. The Formula Bar reads "9/10/2007." What is this ###? |

Is it possible to keep the date as text?
I know Excel doesn't like to do that. But, to have the full date (month/day/2007) in each column or cell would really make the chart unwieldy. Typing "9/10" takes up less space. Any further thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks. "Bob I" wrote: make the cell wider Matthew W. I. Dunn wrote: I'm trying to enter a date in a cell for an attendance roster I'm making. Format as m/d, if that's what you want.

Make the font smaller.
You can enter '9/10 (note the leading apostrophe), but then that cell doesn't contain a date anymore--it's just text that looks like a date. Matthew W. I. Sorry for asking a simple question (I usually don't use Excel):
But, how do I format as month/day? Thanks. "David Biddulph" wrote: Format as m/d, if that's what you want. -- David Biddulph "Matthew W. I. Dunn" wrote in message ...
