Default Try to enter date; get ###

Is it possible to keep the date as text?

I know Excel doesn't like to do that. But, to have the full date
(month/day/2007) in each column or cell would really make the chart unwieldy.
Typing "9/10" takes up less space.

Any further thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm trying to enter a date in a cell for an attendance roster I'm making.

I click a cell and enter "9/10." But, Excel converts it to "###" in the
cell. The Formula Bar reads "9/10/2007."

What is this ###?
