Default Entering Fractions in Excel

When entering fractions in a spreadsheet what do you add before a fraction so
that Excel does not recognize it as a date?

Somebody gave me this symbol //.

Thanks for any help!

Fractions need to be entered as such #<spacefraction. For example, "1 1/2"
(note do not use the quotations) will result in the fraction 1 1/2. To
create only the fraction, enter "0 1/2". This results in the fraction 1/2 in
the cell. Hope this helps. Mike

When entering a fraction.....
input the whole number
then a space
followed by the fraction

Example:
Enter this in cell A1: 0 1/2

The value will change to 0.5...BUT will display as 1/2
Note: if the cell already has a specific numeric format, that format will be
used.

Does that help?

Preformat as fractions and then enter as fractions should do it
If you don't intend to do any calculation you might be better off formatting
as text before you enter them or precede any entry with an apostrophe
