Here are the steps to split an unmerged cell in two:
And that's it! Your cell should now be split into the number of rows or columns that you specified. Keep in mind that any data that was in the original cell will be split up into the new cells as well. I hope that helps!

technically you can't
while I hate merged cells, they have given me too many problems there are still times they are usefull. you can insert a new row or column to the right or below where you want your data to be. select the new row or column and the one above or to the left and merge the rows or columns. go to the cell you wanted to split and unmerge. Id ban them if I had the say. Good for looks only. I lost several hours
yesterday with a book inherited from a merge-happy coworker. You cant copy regions that partially intersect a merger. When I worked around the merged cells, I suspect theyre the reason I got the dissertation like €ścannot paste because source & target regions are different sizes€ť, even though both were 1x1.
