You can selectively stop it from making the change with Undo. Unfortunately, at least in Excel 2003, if the (R) is the last thing in the cell, you don't get the chance -- you have to do the Undo before you've pressed Enter. -- Earl Kiosterud www.smokeylake.com Note: Top-posting has been the norm here.
