I've tried the suggested fixes. 1) ToolsOptionsGeneral uncheck "Ignore
other Applications". This at least lets me open the file, but first Excel tries to find a filename comprised of each name in the path. E.g. It tries to find "C:\Documents.xls" and I get an error message "file not found." I click ok and it tries to find the next word in the path - e.g. "and.xls." This continues until the path is exhausted and Excel finally finds the file. I've also tried making the desktop my default location by 1) ToolsOptionsGeneral then entering the desktop path in the default location box. I've also tried 1) StartRun "excel.exe /unregserver"(no quotes)OK. 2) StartRun "excel.exe /regserver"(no quotes)OK. Did not help. I've also designated the full path to excel.exe. I typed StartRun "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\excel.exe /unregserver and then StartRun "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\excel.exe /regserver That failed too. Can anyone help? Thanks. -- lawrence |

I found another fix. It seems as if there is a conflict between the latest
version of Quicktime and Excel. When I went to Help Repair in Excel, it required me to uninstall Quicktime. Then it worked. I then reinstalled an old version of Quicktime and now both Excel and Itunes work. Does anyone know of a patch from Microsoft or Quicktime/Apple that will allow use of the most current version of Quicktime? -- lawrence "papou" wrote: Hi Lawrence Although it should have been changed using the REGERVER command line, check in the registry (Excel2003): 1 - HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\EXCEL.EXE\shell\Ope n\Command where you should have as default: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\EXCEL.EXE" /e 2 - HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\EXCEL.EXE\shell\Ope n\ddeexec where you should have as default: [open("%1")] HTH Cordially Pascal "lawrence" a écrit dans le message de news: ... Sometimes one of these works when you're having trouble with double clicking on the file in windows explorer: Tools|Options|General|Ignore other applications (uncheck it) --- or --- Close Excel and Windows Start Button|Run excel /unregserver then Windows Start Button|Run excel /regserver The /unregserver & /regserver stuff resets the windows registry to excel's factory defaults. Maybe one of these will work for you. ========== Since you tried the first already, it's time to try the second. lawrence wrote: I've tried the suggested fixes. 1) ToolsOptionsGeneral uncheck "Ignore other Applications".
