Default Criteria range in a Dcount formula

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am getting an "invalid" response in the function wizard with the following
criteria input.

=dcount(datarange, 3, =("crit"&a100&c100)) where a100 is text and c100 is
text. The desired outcome of the criteria is a range name for example:
critav60fy08q1 or critav60fy08q2.

The help screen mentions using 2 = signs i.e. ="=input" which I have tried
with no luck.

Thx
