Default green mark in the top left corner of cells

whne i import data i sometimes get a green mark in the top left corner. This
screws up matching when doing a vlookup. how do i get rid of the green mark?

Pre Excel 2007 do toolsoptionserror checking and deselect enable
background error checking

Default green mark in the top left corner of cells

It is not the error-checking arrow that is screwing up your VLOOKUP

The error-checking indicates inconsistent data like number stored as text.

See ToolsOptionsError Checking for options.
