Default Excel 2003 fails to calculate cells correctly

Hi

I have found this disturbing error in excel.

Go to a cell and type in
=1.1-1.2+0.1
and I get
1.38778E-16
instead of zero.

KB78113 does discuss something similar, but I read it as saying that the
close to zero problem was fixed in '97

It is no wonder I am unable to get Oracle to match Excel results. Excel
can't seem to do simple mathematics.

Designed flaw. To work around

=ROUND(1.1-1.2+0.1,2)

Hi,

Do the following:

1. Select the cell where you typed this expression =1.1-1.2+0.1
2. Do one of the following:
* On the Format menu, click Cells
* Right-click and then click Format Cell
3. In the Format Cells dialog box, click the Number Tab.
4. Under the Category list, click Number nd then click OK.
5. On the Formatting toolbar, click Decrease Decimal button.

Note: if you want to repeat the formatting for any other cells, double-click
the Format Painter in the Standard toolbar and apply then format to those
cells.
