Default how do i change the default from a date to a number?

hi,
does anyone know how to change the settings so that if a number like 11-20
is entered in a cell, it will stay like that rather than turning into nov-20?
i tried changing the setting from date to general, but it then wanted to
convert it to a number like 4438.
any ideas?
many thanks.

Preformat the cell as Text, or use an apostrophe (') as the first
character in the cell.
