how can I ask for data within a certain date range in a pivot table?

Hi

It all depends exactly what you are trying to do.
If Date is a Row field, you could click on the dropdown for the field,
untick Show All, which deselects all of the dates, then just put a check
mark against the individual dates you want to see.

You could right click on the Date field heading, and choose Group &
OutlineGroupMonths or Years and MonthsOK
You will then see the dates summarised by Month, or by Year and Month,
and use the dropdown to select the month you want.

If you need more help, post back, and also say which version of Excel
you are using.
