Default Freeze Panes in Excel 2007

I just got Excel 2007 and a new laptop, that is running windows XP (can't
upgrade to Vista because of the other programs we have to use and the VPN,
but hopefully will soon). I always use freeze panes in Excel and it seems
that it does not work w/ the scroll button on my mouse. I thought first it
was my USB mouse, but the scroll works in all other programs and works
perfectly in Excel until I freeze panes. Any suggestions as to how to fix
this? I use large spreadsheets and freeze panes is required and Ineed to
move through the data quickly which is why I want use scroll on my mouse.

Thank you in advance.
