Default Opening saved files crash my system

I am using Excel 2000 in Windows XP. Three days ago my system started to
crash when opening saved files. Excel opens fine and so far I am able to
create a file with it. When I reopen that file everything works fine. I
installed Excel reader 2003, but when I open any saved file, the system also
crashes. Since I am using a Compaq, I tried
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../ms06-015.mspx
but I did not changed anything.
I tried to force Excel to built a new *.xlb, but I can not find one to
delete or rename. I looked for it at C:\Documents and Settings\<user
name\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel

I will appreciate all the help possible.

Thank you
