Default .XLS FILE

I have a .xls file which I cannot open. I've tried to download the excel
viewer 2003 from Microsoft but it says my operating system (windows 98se) is
too old. Any suggestions as to how to open this file?

Google's spreadsheet software can open .xls files: http://docs.google.com/
