Default Columns are automatically selected

When I choose a column in Excel 2003, it automatically selects all of the
other columns to the left of the column selected. Is there some way to turn
this off?
Thanks!

Carianne,

Make sure you're not in Extended Selection mode. If you see "EXT" on the status bar, press
F8 to turn it off.
