Default Problems with using match and index functions

=IF($B2="","No EIN to Match", INDEX(L2:L34,MATCH($B12,M2:M34,0)))
for a while this worked and then 1 of the rows came up with #NA then more
and more of the 20 rows became #NA now all i get is the formulas.
my B2 column is imported in general format and i have to change the formats
to custom #########. L2:L34 is look for a match in B2 then goes left to
M2:M34 to find match to move to A2
please help
