Default Weird pivot table errors

Hi
I'm getting the following error form a pivot table that is mystifying me.
"The PivotTable name is not valid. To create a PivotTable report, you must
use data that is organised as a list with labeled columns. If you are
changing the name of a PivotTable field, you must type a new name for the
field"

The source of the pivot table is another excel spreadsheet which has only
one column. The column is labelled correctly and until recently there was no
problem with this pivot table.

The weird thing is that is I open up the source data, the pivot table will
refresh with no issues. But if I close the file down then the pivot table
will have the same error again.

I have tried re-creating the table, deleting it etc, but still the same
issue remains, apart from when the source file is open. The same issue occurs
in other files pivot tables that reference this data.

Anyone got any ideas?

Regards
John
