Default Cell Formatting Problem

I am trying to change the formatting in a cell, but when I try clicking on
Formatcell, nothing happens. There's no protection or conditional
formatting on the worksheet, and I am able to format other cells in the
worksheet. Any idea of why I can't change a formatting of some cells but not
others? I don't get any error messages.
Thanks

Is your sheet or workbook protected? If so, unprotect...
Tools - Protection...
Are you editing the cell when you attempt to format it? If so, hit Esc to
get out of editing mode.

Have you got any conditional formatting on that cell?

Click on the cell & check conditional formatting under the format menu
