Default Downloaded from Oracle Database

I have a download from and Oracle database that brings down a column with the
data JAN-06. When it comes into excel it does not format correctly - it
formats as 7-Jan and shows 1/7/2007 in the cell. I want it to stay a date
but cannot get it to format in a month/year format. Any ideas.
