Default Saving Excel to XServer

I know that I may be pummeled for this one however, we use an Xserver to save
alot of data for the production environment (don't ask I was not here when it
was set up). When I save a 2007 excel document to the XServer the document
will save but after a few minutes I can edit the document but I cannot save
it anymore.
THis is true for the 2003 format and the 2007 format. Anyone have any
suggestions??
Other than drop the XServe?!
thank you
