Hi. I had some problems with excel recently and found fixes in this forum.
2 of them have to do with setting options. These are (1) when i double click an excel file, excel opens, but not the file; and (2) i can't connect to MS Online Office support from within Excel (or word). The answers are (1) go to Tools/Options/General and uncheck "Ignore Other Applications," and (2) got to Tools/Options/General/Service Options/Online Services and make sure everything is checked. For (2), everything was checked, but clearing the checks, closing, restarting excel, going back and checking these, closing, restarting excel, fixed the problem. (3) I also applied a switch so that excel will act like word with respect to opening separate files in separate excel windows. This allowed me to close one excel file/window using the big red X, but kept the other file/window open. I went to Explorer/Tools/Folder Options/File Types/.xls/Advanced/open/edit. I then added /e "%1" to where it says "Application Used to Perform Action." This worked, too. Awesome. HOWEVER, problems (1) & (2) returned this morning when i started my computer. Problem (3) returned at some point later in the day after i'd opened and closed excel several different times. Why aren't these changes "staying" or "holding"? How can i make them "stick"? I'm running Windows XP Pro SP2, fully updated & MS Office 2003 fully updated with Excel 2003 (11.8105.8107) SP2. THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (longest post EVER) jeffc4442 |
