I just figured it out. Simply put a dollar sign in front of the second A.
Instead of
=MOD(SUBTOTAL(3,$A$1:A1),2)=0
use
=MOD(SUBTOTAL(3,$A$1:$A1),2)=0

All we really care about is the counta from column A, so that can stay
fixed.
