Default shared excel document

We have a shared excel document (office 2000, win98) which changes as soon
as it's opened over the network (office 2000, winxp).
Their are no macros in the doc. It seem like it might be losing some of the
formating (freeze, hide)?
When i go to the actual computer & open up the doc, everything is fine.
Any ideas:
Thanks
Jim
