Default Excel Menus don't function when document opened in IE6

I have a client who has an issue I can't find a resolution for. Our
enviroment is Windows XP/Office XP SP3 in a large AD corporate
environment. When this particular client opens an Excel document in a
browser the Excel portion of the menus, (Data, Tools, etc.) cease to
function. They will highlight but not drop down. The only menus that
do work are File and Help. Excel is the only app to do this. The same
document opens and works perfectly on my computer, a co-worker of his
with the same rights, and his login on another machine. Other office
documents open on the machine in a browser, with Word document menus
working flawlessly.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a true resolution for this
issue? I am aware of having all documents open in stand-alone Excel.
That is not the work around I am looking for. I have read countless
(ie 6 or 7:) ) posts to this and other groups over the last 5 years
with this issue, with no solution whatsoever. I would be most grateful
for an answer that doesn't involve a complete re-image of the machine
or just using stand along Excel to open the documents. Thanks so much
for your assistance

To answer my own question, it appears that building a new profile for
the user solved the issue in this case. I also reinstalled java right
before this but I don't know how much it affected the solution.
Recreating the profile did the trick.
