Default How do I get rid of read only that isn't there?

This is the problem - last year I created a spreadsheet so that I could do a
mail merge and print labels for my parents Christmas card list. When I try to
save it to a disk so that I can put it on my dad's computer, I get a message
that it is read only. When I check the properites for the file, the read only
is not checked. This drove me nuts last year and is still driving me nuts.
