Default Destination workbook formulae become #VALUE!

When I open my destination workbook, even if I select 'don't update', I am
finding all cells referring back to the source workbook become #VALUE!,
therefore wiping out the workbook until I actually open the source workbook.
This has only just started happening to me - this used to work OK.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
