Default document too slow opening

All of my excel wbs take about 9 seconds to open. The task bar shows
"requesting virus scan" I am running Norton. I closed it, but it didn't help.
I deleted all temp files using the %temp% run thing that Peterson
recommended...no help. A 386 running windows 3.1 was faster then this.
Please help.

Re-open Norton and configure it not to run the virus scan on you docs.
