Default Why doesn't it work anymore?

I used to be able to choose several excel, word, powerpoint & etc. files from
my documents folder and right click on one of them choose open and they would
all open. Now none of them open. Actually nothing happens. I have also
noticed that if I have multiple files open in a window (ones that I opened
one at a time) I can no longer choose to "close group". I have to close them
one at a time. I am running Office 2003 Pro on an XP system. Any help would
be appreciated.

To close all, depress the shift key and hold while selecting FileClose All.
