Default Regarding Pivot Tables

When setting up the source data in a pivot table, is there a way to assign
rows as fields and columns as records? Excel automatically sets each row of
the source data as a record with field names located in the top cells of the
columns. I typically prefer this standard layout, but sometimes find it
useful to store and display source data with the columns as records.

Pivot tables require data to be stored with rows as records.

If you need a different layout for display, perhaps you could start with the
source data in the proper orientation and use links or a pivot table to
generate a display view on another sheet.
