Default merge cells that contain the same data

How can I merge cells in the same column that contain the same data. ie.
if the first 5 rows have one value, then the next 6 rows have another value
and so on. The total number of the cells that need to be merged varies.

I need to find an automated way of doing this as I have a lot of data to
format
