Why can't I record "flag for follow up" as a macro? Is there some VBA code I
can use to summon it?

Do you want to explain what you are talking about as I have no idea.

In the toolbar of Excel there is a red flag button - "flag for follow up"
which lets you set reminders to check the spreadsheet at a later date. I'd
like to expand on this - rather than just remind the user to look at the
whole spreadsheet, I want to get remind them about a specific cell, and,
ideally, specific data. I was hoping that by recording the "flag for follow
up" in a macro I could see the code it uses and expand on it. However, as
soon as I start recording a macro the "flag for follow up" button becomes
opaque and no longer click-able...

Can you tell us what toolbar that is on? Sounds like you have some add-in
that other people don't use. I have looked hard and I have no idea what this
is either.

To see the name of the toolbar, grab it and drag it into the middle of your
screen, so that it detaches itself from the rest of the excel interface. You
can now see the name at the top. (you can do the same thing with the other
excel toolbars as well)

It's on my Standard tool bar?! In between the "save" and "print" buttons! I
do, unfortunately, have a Macintosh... is this something specific to that? I
don't have any add-ins installed either... it's after the "protection"
settings in the Tools menu too.

As it is, if I click it, it allows me to set a reminder to check the
spreadsheet at a later date, specified by me. Then, even if Excel isn't
running, a message appears on my screen at the specified time and day to
remind me.

I've not been taking anything illegal, I swear!!

Hi Richard

Right click on a blank area of your toolbars.
From the dropdown select Customise
Now, if you right click on your icon, you should be able to see if a
macro has been assigned to that button for it is not like anything I
have ever come across in Excel.
