Every time I save an excel file to a compact disc it saves as read only. I
can't seem to change this setting. I am new to office xp and this is really
frustrating me. Help!

Just posted 11/24/08 Opens as read only.

Then found your post on 10 step plan. Thought it was 12 step plan :-).
Would like to be enlightened also please. I have the same problem.as sbolton.
Thanks in advance.

I just figured out a 10 step program to save "read only" files to a RW-CD.
If you are still interested in finding your answer, I believe I have it for
you. Write to me at and I will be glad to send the steps
to you. I am smiling since it sound like an Alcoholic Anonymous 10 step
program. But, I am not kidding since I have been working at this for almost
a week. Even SONY service could not help me. I am proud and will share.

As far as Windows is concerned any CD drive is read-only. The "RW" is
handled by 3rd party software.
