Hello there,
Just wondering what hardware is more important for excel to run faster ? should I put the money on a faster CPU or just get more RAM for my PC, or even a faster harddrive ? I need to handle loads of reports everyday and a lot of matchings (vlookups) / large scale formattings - no extreme calculations or chartings needed. my current pc is a crappy pentium 4, 1.xx GHz with 1GB ram as I know. Many thanks in advance. Steven Vegeta |

Hi Steven,
It depends on the type of application, but in general fast CPU, fast memory and lots of it and fast busses are important. Take into consideration that all this may change quite a bit with the arrival of the next Excel release, which will benefit from multicore or multiple processors, use of calculation servers etc. For now, lots of tips can be found he www.decisionmodels.com -- Kind regards, Niek Otten Microsoft MVP - Excel "Steven Vegeta" <Steven wrote in message ... | Hello there, | | Just wondering what hardware is more important for excel to run faster ? | should I put the money on a faster CPU or just get more RAM for my PC, or | even a faster harddrive ? If it intensive calculations, I would say more memory. If you are frequently
opening and saving/closing workbooks, maybe a faster HDD. Invariably the best thing you could do is to optimise the formulae.
