Default Custom data labels on a scatter plot

What I want to do seems so basic and easy, yet Excel doesn't seem to have
standard functionality to accomplish it. All I want to do is put names on
data points in a scatter plot chart. The only options XL seems to have is to
put the x-axis value, the y-axis value, and/or the series name on the
individual data points. What I would like to do is to have a third data
series in the data set that gives a name to the data point. What I am trying
to do is like a Gartner-group "magic quadrant" chart. Each data point has an
x-value and a y-value that indicate its position, and then on the actual
chart, there is the individual name of each data point next to its dot. As a
consultant, I put these types of charts together almost daily, and right now,
the only way I seem to be able to do it is to build it graphically in
PowerPoint. Help Please!!
