Default Can Excel recognize a word for a number?

I am trying to import some information from an imported source into Excel.
But the information is in text and I would like to make some charts. Is
there a way to change the text to a word value?

I haven't actually tried it myself, but someone at work said to multiply
the number that's showing up as text by 1 and results will be a number.

Good luck
