Default Area Chart With Value X-Axis?

Area charts in Excel come up with a category axis for the X-axis, so that
points are evenly-spaced, regardless of value (the value is disregarded). Is
there a way to create an area chart with a value axix for the X-axis, so that
points are spaced according to their values? The solution need not be
something that strictly qualifies as an area chart, as long as it looks like
one. Add-ons, etc., are just fine, as well.

You can use a time-scale axis, which is a good approximation:

I'll give that a try. In this case, the X-axis is a set of percentages,
representing the standard deviation of an investment portfolio. You've
certainly headed me in a direction that should prove helpful.

Thank you.
