Hi everyone, and welcome back from the holidays. Here is my issue, and I
really hope one of you are able to help me with it: I am trying to chart some data and have hit a wall. Here is basically what I'm trying to chart: Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec 2003 $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ 2004 $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ 2005 $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ 2006 $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ 2007 $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ $$ I think you get the basic idea; my boss wants the $$$ amounts/revenue charted by month and year, exactly as shown. However, when I enter the data as shown above, I end up with the years being shown in a legend. I need the years to appear as the "Y" axis, and for the months to appear as the "X" axis. Can anyone poitn me in the right direction on this one? I really appreciate any help......thanks! -- TMc |

How much egg nog was that?
If you have years on the y-axis and months on the x-axis, where are the dollar values to go? The result you describe (years on legend, or each year is a separate data series) sound just fine If you want a longitudinal chart (Jan 2002, Feb 2003 ....Jan 2004......Dec 2007) you will need to rearrange the data Happy new year -- Bernard V Liengme www.stfx.ca/people/bliengme remove caps from email "TMc" wrote in message ... Thank you for your reply....and in answer to your first question - that would
be no eggnog :-P I did a stacked column chart, with years represented there instead of one of the axes. Back to my original question - is what I originally wanted to accomplish even possible? I'm stuck on this format only because it's what's been scribbled on a sheet of paper and handed to me. I'm starting to think I'll have to convince him another layout would be better....... -- TMc "TMc" wrote: Hi everyone, and welcome back from the holidays. OK, If what you want looks like this:
$20 | $10 | $5 | $0 | -------------------------------------------------------- 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 You can do that by selecting series in columns. If you want it to be: Jan | Feb | Mar | etc. | ---------------------------------------------------- 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 That's not possible. Ask yourself if this picture represents a chart you could make by hand!
Try it with real dollar values. -- Bernard V Liengme www.stfx.ca/people/bliengme remove caps from email "TMc" wrote in message ... It's amazing how many Excel chart problems start with "my boss really wants it this way..." :-) What you're describing (years on the y-axis, months on the x-axis, dollars in the data label) is a table, just like the one you've written. Are you sure he was asking for a chart and not a table? If a chart, please say what chart. Line, column, bubble? You can have a bubble chart--it'll look funny, but it may be just what your boss wanted. In fact, the one person you should be asking is your boss, who doesn't read this newsgroup. -- Del Cotter NB Personal replies to this post will send email to , which goes to a spam folder-- please send your email to del3 instead. |
