Default Imported data

I would guess that the numbers are importing in as text (when you put the
cursor in the cell is there a ' before the number?)
The easiest way to correct this is to go 'tools'...'options'...'error
checking' and make sure 'number stored as text' box is checked off.

then go 'tools'...'error checking' and it will allow you to convert the
text numbers into regular numbers and thus do calculations.

I have EXCEL 2007 and want to import figures from a 2003 EXCEL spread sheet
whose figures are the result of other spread sheets of which I have no access.
My spread sheet does not "see" the imported figures even though I can see
them. (When I use my excel auto sum feature on the imported data, the
resultant column totals are zero.) Presently I am having to reenter the
imported data by hand into my spread sheet.
Is there a way to convert the imported figures to a form my excel can "see"
and enable me to manipulate the imported data?
