How are you attempting to open them? From within Excel after you've already
started it, or by double-clicking the filename in their folder?

If you're trying to open them directly (via double-click the filename) try
opening Excel first and then browsing to them and trying to open them that
way.

If you're trying by double-clicking in a folder, is Excel even starting up?
It doesn't sound like Excel is even starting by the way you wrote it up.
