Press [ESC] to reset the cell back to the formula
DON'T press [enter]...unless you want the value to replace the formula
Note: if you select only part of a formula and press [F9], you'll see the
calc'd value for what you selected.

I'm using Excel version 2002. Or did that go by the wayside with the
