Default one cell does not reflect a sum

The 'numbers' you're seeing are really text.

One way is to put a number 1 in a blank cell, copy it, now select
c87:n87, now Edit--PasteSpecial select the 'multiply' option and
then OK.

Now delete the cell in which you entered the number 1
