Default Shared Workbook Won't Save

Is there a special setting to get a shared workbook , stored on a network
drive, to save once it is updated by several users? The file a somewhat
complex, and the size is about 6MB. Sometimes it saves when a user exits and
sometimes it does not save. Also, sometimes when it opens it opens as
read-only.

Regards,
